Medium is my home. I decided to continue writing here till the platform lasts. I often write on the topics of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Neural Networks, and Deep Learning which are all related to Data Science. I'm looking forward to supporting my readers' data science education even more in the next years!
I really like the recent updates on the Medium distribution system because I believe in quality. My views have increased 2x times because those updates give priority to distributing quality content across the platform. I like to deliver the content promised in the title and subtitle of each article I write, which adds long-term value to the readers.
When talking about free publishing tools, the List feature stands out for me. It was the starting point of creating my "Neural Networks and Deep Learning Course", the first ever on Medium! Without the list feature, I'd not be able to organize the articles in that course in one place and that type of course would not be possible here. I'm happy to say that many readers benefit from that course.
When readers add my articles to their own lists for future reference, I believe that my articles have long-term value for them. I'm proud of that. It motivates me to write many interesting articles in the future. When measuring the engagement from readers to recommend quality content, let the algorithm to choose the stories that are added to the lists many times by readers. Definitely, those stories have long-term value for readers. Lists are also useful for me to organize the prerequisite contents in one place for a particular article!
Code blocks with syntax highlighting features are useful for me as most of my articles include code blocks.
The "About" section really adds value to my profile. See how I used it to create the trust and value of what I write here!
So, "doubling down on the publishing tools on behalf of authors" has a great benefit for me!
The publication editors should get paid as they support writers by providing feedback for each story. A great example is Towards Data Science editors. They really work hard to build a home for data science-related topics. Currently, that publication brings about 15M monthly visits to the platform. That is 10% of the total monthly visits on Medium!
In addition to that, the curation part can be done using publications. Publication editors work closely with Medium staff and they can recommend good stories! In addition to that, in my opinion, publications and Lists share one common feature. We can use Lists to categorize our articles. Like that, some publications have many stories around a specific topic. For example, the Towards Data Science publication has all the stories related to data science. Readers can find them in one place! Publications also help new writers to grow quickly.
So, it is really important to keep the publications active!
When writing on this platform, three objectives often come to my mind.
1. Help others to learn data science, AI and ML.
2. Improve my knowledge of data since, AI and ML by writing what I know. I often gather and organize many facts (topic research) to complete an article.
3. Make money through the Medium Partner Program.
All objects are equally important to me as I'm a full-time learner and writer here! It is very promising that all three objectives are now being fulfilled even more in the next few years thanks to these plans!
Thank you for everything!
Rukshan.
