This is very important for technical writers who write quality articles that provide long-term value for readers. Most technical articles published on Medium bring external views rather than internal views. For me, the percentage of external views is more than 80%. I usually get 80,000 views per month. Before the update, earnings were okay because earnings were calculated using the Member reading time. But, after the update, I can see a massive drop in my earnings.
How about considering external views as a factor in the earning formula? For example, if a writer gets more than 50,000 (threshold limit) external views for a month, a bonus point or some weight will be added when calculating the earnings. This is just my suggestion because every external view is an opportunity to bring a new paying member to Medium.
